Hideout busted in J&K’s Kishtwar; arms, ammo seized

JAMMU: A joint team of security forces Thursday busted a terrorist hideout in J&K’s Kishtwar district and recovered an AK-47 rifle, one AK magazine, 30 rounds and a pair of binoculars. The seizure was made in the forests of Berighouth-Dugadda, Chatroo, during a routine surveillance operation ahead of the upcoming Independence Day, said officials.Kishtwar’s upper reaches have remained a battleground between troops and terrorists hiding in the region since May 21, when an encounter erupted in Chatroo’s Singhpora area. Armyman Gaykar Sandip Pandurang (32) died, and two other personnel were injured on the second day of the gun battle.On July 20, a fire exchange broke out between holed-up ultras and security forces following intelligence inputs about the presence of three-four terrorists, including a couple of ‘commanders’, in the forested belt of Haddal Gal, Khankoo, in Kishtwar’s Cherji area.
