Delhi horror: 36-year-old businessman dies days after being hit with helmet by delivery agents

NEW DELHI: A 36-year-old businessman, Shivam Gupta, died Tuesday, days after being allegedly attacked by food delivery agents in central Delhi. Shivam, an only child, was reportedly punched, kicked, and hit on the head with a helmet following a verbal spat.The incident took place on the night of January 2 near E Block, Connaught Place, when Shivam had asked a delivery agent for water, police said, reported news agency PTI. Two more delivery agents allegedly joined in the attack. A PCR call around 1.30 am on January 3 reported an unconscious man lying on the road, bleeding. Shivam was rushed to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, where doctors found multiple haematomas and declared him unfit to give a statement.Shivam was later transferred to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and underwent surgery on January 5. His father, Anil Kant Gupta, said Shivam initially showed signs of recovery but passed away on January 19. Gupta, who owns shops in Paharganj, said he had personally checked CCTV footage that showed his son lying on the ground while his friend stood nearby.“I, along with the police, checked many CCTV footage of the incident. I was told by the police that my son asked for water from the delivery agents when a verbal spat ensued with one of the agents. He, in a fit of rage, repeatedly stuck a helmet on my son’s head. He fell unconscious on the ground and his friend, who went with him, was standing close to him. I have no idea why he did not inform us about the entire matter,” Gupta alleged.Police said they inspected the scene, collected blood-stained material for forensic examination, and reviewed CCTV footage. An FIR was registered under Section 110 (culpable homicide) and Section 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Two men have been apprehended, and further investigation is underway to identify all those involved.
