A French woman, who has reportedly relocated to India, described India as safer than France in a video that is now going viral on social media. The conversation between a Nigerian YouTuber, Pascal Olaleye, and the woman has stirred mixed reactions online as she stresses that many foreigners misunderstand India due to prevailing stereotypes. The woman, a teacher by profession, has been living in India for the past two years, says she likes the culture, “which is very different from Europe,” as per the YouTube video posted by Olaleye on his channel. When asked if she thinks India is safer than France, she says, “Yes, for sure.”India, which is considered to be an unsafe place for women, has proved to be a better area than France for a female. She also shared that even if she loves staying in India, she does not plan to live here permanently, saying that she does not like being limited by geography. At one point, she also says that she shares a “hate-love” relationship with the country. “Sometimes you love India for something and the next day you hate it for the exact same thing,” she said in the video. The video, which has garnered around 74,000 views on Instagram, has led to mixed reactions among netizens. “She is correct. I’ve lived all over India and have never experienced anything dangerous.” commented a user.“As an Indian origin person born in Africa lived in India India and Europe India is best,” commented another user. “As an Indian American, the whole ‘India is unsafe’ is definitely not solely a French thing. Seems trendy these days to stereotype and demonize India as such,” read another comment. While some users agreed with the woman’s perspective, others expressed disagreement with her views.“It’s not absolutely true it depends on who you meet and have to deal with!” said one user. “As an Indian living in France, I don’t agree with her.. Yes incidents like pickpocketing, snatching etc are very common in France and can happen even in a crowded place in broad daylight but that’s nothing as compared to the eve teasing incidents, being touched inappropriately publicly, people staring at you all the time, moral polices everywhere judging and telling you what to do, that constant fear is no way comparable to anything.. I love my country but the truth is the truth..,” read a comment.
